Art is the First Thing We Notice. So Why Is It the Last Thing We Choose?

Art shouldn't be an afterthought. Let us help you find the piece that transforms your home, office, or favourite space.

Art is the Decision. Everything Else is the Room Getting Ready.

Walk into almost any space and what's the first thing you notice?

The artwork.

It catches your eye before the furniture. Before the flooring. Before the paint colour. So why is art so often the very last thing we choose?

We spend weeks choosing paint colours. Months deciding on furniture. Hours comparing countertops and light fixtures. Yet the one thing people notice first when they walk into a room is usually the last thing we buy.

Too often, artwork becomes something to "fill a wall" after every other decision has already been made. We think it should be the other way around.

The right artwork doesn't simply match a room—it gives the room meaning. It creates emotion, starts conversations, and transforms a house into a home or an office into a space people remember.

Local Designer Kevin C. Hall, Recently Said Something We Couldn't Agree With More...

"Art is not the finishing touch in a home. It is the point."

His perspective perfectly captures something we've believed for decades: When you choose artwork first, everything else begins to fall into place.

Janine Breck painting Leap of Faith Art Works GalleryJANINE BRECK

"Leap of Faith" | 48 x 30 inches

"Leap of Faith" is an original painting by Vancouver-based artist Janine Breck. Organic pools of burnt orange, deep charcoal, and vivid blue spread and bleed across a pale Yupo surface, creating a vertical composition that feels both spontaneous and considered. The flowing nature of alcohol ink on the non-porous Yupo paper allows the colours to move freely, resulting in soft translucent edges and unexpected interactions between hues.

At Art Works Gallery, we've spent over 40 years helping people discover artwork they truly connect with. We're not here to judge, pressure, or convince you to buy something that doesn't feel right.
