Selected works for the season of slowing down, looking closer, and finding something beautiful.
For me, fall feels like a warm conversation with an old friend.
The days grow shorter, the light changes, and home becomes our haven. We settle in, look around, and find ourselves noticing the things that make our spaces feel uniquely ours.
Art has a special place in that feeling. A painting on the wall can bring back a person, a place, a particular moment in time. It can make us pause on an ordinary Tuesday, or remind us why we fell in love with it in the first place.
I often think about the collectors who first discovered a piece at Art Works Gallery years ago and still love it today. That is the wonderful thing about living with art: it doesn't simply decorate a room. It becomes part of our lives.
And here in Vancouver, with those extraordinary views competing for our attention, there is still a good case to be made for what hangs on our walls.
One collector I know has developed a lovely habit of rotating the artwork in his home. He curates a small selection, enjoys choosing what to display, and gives each piece its moment to shine. He calls himself a “gallerist.”
I rather like that idea.
Perhaps fall is the perfect time to look at your walls with fresh eyes. Revisit an old favourite. Move something to a new room. Or discover a piece that makes you feel something the moment you see it.
We've selected a collection of artworks that capture something of the season: its warmth, its colour, its quiet beauty and its invitation to slow down.
Take a look. You might just fall in love.

" Rodney, your description of fall as an intimate conversation with a friend is just right. This is the season when the house draws us in, everything on the walls seems uplifting, and we slow down and notice our environment a bit more. You’re right that art moves into your home and your consciousness. It has a way of holding people, places and moments still for us."
