  • Christopher Welsh was born in 1960 and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He studied art at Washtenaw College in Ann Arbor. In 1982, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in fine art.

Using texture and colour in multi-media, Welsh draws emotions from his viewer; “Everything has a natural flow to it - an organization. Sometimes you can’t see it right away, you have to get close. Or sometimes distance yourself. I think my work is like that.”

Welsh’s work evolves from a nervous energy that creates a sense of motion, dimension and spontaneity. He combines soft colour shadings with an active and imaginative palette. In each piece, he strives for an ethereal quality, with restraint being as vital to his art as the surface with which he begins.

“When I begin painting on any certain day, I am influenced by everything. The weather, or the contrast of the hills against the sky sets the mood for any work I’ll begin that day.”

Welsh’s work has been exhibited at the Austin Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona; Jill Youngblood gallery in Los Angeles; the First Street Gallery, Cathedral City, California; Winn Art Group, Los Angeles, California; and the Elizabeth Weiner Galleries in Australia and Hong Kong. Welsh’s work can be found in a variety of corporate and private collections throughout the United States, including the Alliance Bank, Columbia Studios, Merrill Lynch Commercial Investments, and the Sheraton Hotels, among others.
