"I am fascinated by crows. They seem so inquisitive and intelligent and seem to have their own culture. 

When I paint them, I find myself wondering about the direction of their curiosity. Are they as interested in us as we are in them? What are they thinking as they watch from a fence post or a tree branch? Do they recognize me from one encounter to the next?

My paintings are less about answering those questions than about exploring them. As I paint them, it’s interesting to imagine the inner life of a creature that is so familiar to us yet impossible to know."
